Short Everest Base Camp Trek: Possibility & How to Do

Everest Base Camp Trek is usually two weeks long. Regular trek requires at least 11 days of walking. For some people, longer holidays are not possible. They want to reach the Everest Base Camp. Therefore, today’s blog is about Short Everest Base Camp Trek; possibility and how to do tips.

Possibility

Is it really possible to shorten Everest Base Camp Trek days? Yes, it is possible. However, it comes with some risks too. You must be very careful in your trip preparation.

I am a Trekking Guide and also the blogger. It’s been 20 years. My experience in mountains of Nepal tells me that it is possible for the Short Everest Base Camp Trek.

People suggests to take the helicopter return flight from Everest Base Camp to Kathmandu. It is possible. Though it is an option but with few alterations.

There are few ways to shorten the Everest Base Camp Trek. So, how to do it?

Short Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary Without Helicopter Flight to Lukla

First Day: Flight to Lukla; Trek to Manjo

Early in the morning, you will take the flight to Lukla. Walking starts right after landing in Lukla. You will trek along the Dudhkoshi River to Manjo via Phakding. Moreover, it is a warm up exercise.

Second Day: Trek to Namche Bazaar

You will walk through green lush forests and few hamlets. The trail is both flat and uphill. The highlight of the day is first sight of Mt. Everest. Furthermore, you get the thrill of crossing twin suspension bridge too.

Third Day: Acclimatization Hike to Everest View Hotel. However, there is slight change in plan on this day. Instead of trekking back to Namche, you spend overnight at Kyangjuma or Phungi Thanga.

Fourth Day: Trek to Pangboche. You have to walk two downhill sections and one uphill section on this day. However, walking is not challenging. You can easily walk up to Pangboche. Moreover, you can spend some spiritual time at Tengboche Monastery as well.

Fifth Day: This is tiring day. You have to walk for 7 hours. Trek to Lobuche.

Sixth Day: You will trek further to Everest Base Camp on this day. After spending about 20 – 30 minutes in the base camp, we head back to Lobuche. Total trekking hours on this day is about seven hours.

Seventh Day: It is also one of the longest day of the trek. You will trek to Kyangjuma or Namche Bazaar.

Eighth Day: We trek back to Lukla.

Finally, on 9th day we fly to Kathmandu.

Short Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary With Helicopter Flight to Lukla

We will follow the similar itinerary as mentioned above. However, on sixth day after Everest Base Camp we take helicopter ride to Lukla. It is splendid to get bird eye view of Khumbu glacier, landscape and mountains too.
